Ep. 306: The House Tour - April 5, 2014

Some flavors are just too good to sample in small doses. This evening follows a great electronic music Cammies showcase in Chico hosted by BassMint and precedes the opening outdoor daytime Sunset party in San Francisco, so I couldn't help it: I played house , at least as I define and understand it, to include influential disco flavors, some 303 action, humor, depth, noise, soul expansion, funk. Download the show (109 MB MP3) Playlist Ben Nevile  - "Click" on Context Risco Connections  - "I'm Caught Up" Bumblebee Unlimited  - "I Love You" Don Armando's 2nd Ave. Rhumba Band  - "Deputy of Love" on ZE Records Derrick L. Episode 202: Feb. 9, 2013

A beautiful night close to the Carnaval holiday inspired me to start off with some deep house and samba-infused broken beat, followed by some of the cutting edge breakbeat sounds from across the pond, a few deep 80s cuts, and some fresh hot techno traxx, with a disco-fied finish. The Wax On - October 4, 2012

It's a great challenge and joy to slip into another DJ's big shoes and bring your own spin to their style. I'm glad to have had a first opportunity to drive the Funk Bus for DJ Spenny whose Wax On radio show is a long-running pillar of the KZFR Thursday afternoon lineup. Get ready for the funk bombs! June 17, 2012 - Hot Night, Hotter Tunes

It's sweltering out there. Still, at 11pm at night. At midnight. Chico's melting after a weekend of the triple digits. Sweaty times require sweaty funky music, my friends, and that's what filled my crate several days ago when I did a little extracurricular KZFR set on Wednesday night. So carrying that over to this evening, we find this set starting out with a hot blast of funk, settling into a deep dancefloor groove, and soon moving beyond into uncharted territories. Soon, we've forgotten the radiating pavement and swamp cooler buzz, as the ethereal vibes of some deep sea techno envelope us. This is how I cool off, and it's late now, time to open windows and drift to sleep on the breeze. Playlist Zongamin “Make Love Not War” The Jimmy Castor Bunch “It's Just Begun” Salsoul Orchestra “Getaway” Northend “Tee's Happy” Electra “Feels Good (Carrots & Beets) (dub)” Pittsburgh Transit Authority “Now's Tomorrow” Smith and Hack “Frederi...

The After After Party May 6, 2012

The show had a bit of a deeper vibe this evening, as I've been reflecting this week on the loss of Adam Yauch and the effect the Beastie Boys had on getting me into hip-hop and breakbeats. I won't claim to have done a tribute show in any way, but subconsciously there's more breakbeat in this show than "usual", whatever that is. At any rate, hold now... hit it: Playlist Steve Reich - “Music For 18 Musicians (coldcut remix)” from Reich - Remixed Derrick May - “Strings of Life” from Modulations Arthur Russell - “Let's Go Swimming (Coastal Dub)” from Let's Go Swimming - EP Telex - “Do Worry (Lindstrom Remix)” from Do Worry - EP ZeroDB - “Sunshine Lazy” from Bongos, Bleeps and Basslines Luke Vibert and B.J.
