Ep. 319: November 8, 2014 - Paradise (Garage) Lost
On the anniversary of the death of the pioneering DJ Larry Levan , I brought a bunch of records in that reflect the vibe that Levan brought to his main residency at the legendary New York members-only cub, the Paradise Garage . It was there that Levan utilized the custom-built tools of his DJ booth (including full control over sound, lights, even temperature) to fuse the avant-garde with the dance floor, including sounds like dub, punk, gospel, african music and house. The second set of the night was dedicated to his spirit.
