Some flavors are just too good to sample in small doses. This evening follows a great electronic music Cammies showcase in Chico hosted by BassMint and precedes the opening outdoor daytime Sunset party in San Francisco, so I couldn't help it: I played house, at least as I define and understand it, to include influential disco flavors, some 303 action, humor, depth, noise, soul expansion, funk.

Eccentric Groove with guest DJ Oilpanic Nov. 17, 2012

It was my pleasure this week to have Chico's own DJ/producer Oilpanic in the studio to mix up some of his favorite current sounds. Hjalmar Hake aka Oilpanic hails originally from Sweden but has called Chico his home for many years. He's recently released techno tracks and EPs to critical acclaim on the local 530Techno label as well as Blipswitch, Musical Missionaries and Waveform, and has been nominated numerous times for best electronic artist in Chico. Oilpanic brought in his Traktor rig and I let him take over the show for this rare treat. Hope you enjoy the podcast. Happy 808 Day - a holiday to celebrate the drum machine that enabled bass music culture. One of Chico's finest curators of bass music has been about it since '93: Billy the Robot. The deep-digging DJ/Producer dropped in to the Eccentric Groove show this spring and took control for 2 hours, moving through numerous styles of jaw-dropping body-tweaking bass funk.
